Legal

Legal relates to the law, in which a certain action or statement is permitted by law.

Ethical

Involves a questioning of right and wrong behaviour disregarding law relating to ethics.

Moral

A viewpoint of right and wrongs based on a person's personal thoughts and experience.

Legal Issues within media products

There can be many legal issues found within media products, one being copyright and ownership. This issue has been solved with copyright laws issued to make sure no company or individual claims ownership over a product. 

Moral Issues within media products

There can be many moral issues found within media products as it depends on what each individual of the audience is accustomed to. Within my product it may not be suitable for some ages as it, could be considered as thriller or horror, due to choice of music for ident 1. Moral issues can be solved by initially informing the audience of what the content may contain, such as violence or excessive language.

Ethical Issues within media products

Many ethical issues can be found within media products, as this is not regarded by law, however it could still be considered as right or wrong. One type of ethical issue is media manipulation which is a method used to manipulate media consumers, this is generally used by politicians, influencers and conspiracy theorists.

Who regulates television idents?

The company that regulates TV, is Ofcom, which is a regulator for communications services.

What is Ofcom?

Ofcom makes sure people are able to use communications services, they protect listeners and viewers from harmful or offensive material that may be displayed on TV, radio and on demand.

How does Ofcom regulate TV?

The regulatory boards contain rules in which TV broadcasters must follow. They have created separate rules for video on demand services.

Ofcom Codes that could effect my idents production

Material that might seriously impair the physical, mental or moral development of people under eighteen must not be be broadcast.

Appropriate scheduling should be judged according to likely number of age range of children in the audience or views, taking into account school times, weekends and holidays.

Material likely to encourage or incite the commission of crime or to lead to disorder must not be included in television or radio services
